Jellyfish blooms are known to occur every 20 years, but Collins says warmer oceans, agriculture runoff, commercial fishing and the creation of artificial reefs may have an impact on increased numbers of the animals in recent years.

WITH the opening of the new Terminal 2 (T2) of Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), the Cebu Provincial Government also arranged for private-owned buses to ferry commuters to and from the airport starting on Sunday, Jylu 1. Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) Manager Joey Herrera said that at least seven 4-seater bus units of Vallacar Transit Inc. (VTI), which operates the Ceres buses, will be transporting passengers from CSBT to the airport and vice versa.
Herrera said there are bus atops where the bus units can load and unload passengers along the way, including stops at Robinsons Fuente, Robinsons Galleria and SM City Cebu.
These buses can also pickup passengers at the bus stops in Mandaue City, such as the North Bus Terminal and Pacific Mall; and at the Gaisano Island Mall in Lapu-Lapu City before going to its last stop at T2. The buses will operate from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., departing from Terminal 2 every 30 minutes, Herrera said. Bus fares would range from P25 to P40.

CCLEX Construction Officially Starts - CKN 408

The Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) has officially started on July 5, 2018 through a blessing ceremony at the Compania Maritima Building at the South Road Properties.
Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmena and gave his speech about the project. He said that this a milestone for the improvemnet of the Cebu's economy.
"We are here to recognize the turning point in the development of Cebu's economy which is the creation of this bridge..." Mayot Osmena said in his speech.
The P22 billion Cebu-Cordova bridge helps in mitigating the traffic condition on the two bridges in the area.
He thanked Manuel V. Pangilinan, chairman of the Metro Pacific Tollways Crop. (MPTC) and also emphasized that this project will benefit not only Cebu and Cordova, but also the entire southern half of Cebu Province.
"...I congratulate Manny Pangilinan and group for being parter in Cebu's developmnet I am very, very happy that this will truly make a very important development not only Cordova, not only the South District but the entire southern half of Cebu Province..." he added.
The Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) can hold upto approximately 40,000 vehicles per day.
The 8.25 km is expected to be completed on 2022.

Cebu City losing P1B a year to tax evaders

 

 

 

THE Cebu City Government loses at least a billion on revenues every year because of business establishments that do not pay their taxes.

Mayor Tomas Osmena earlier said there are over 10,000 establishments in the city that do not have business permits and are not paying their taxes to the city.

In his news conference yesterday, Osmena said business establishments can operate in the city even if they don't have business permits, provided they pay taxes.

Osmena said there are business owners who don't apply for a business permit because of the requirements that they need to secure from other government agencies.

He warned establishments that if they are caught operating without a business permit and do not pay taxes, they will be blacklisted.

 The Philippines and South Korea signed on Monday a USD 172.64 million loan agreement for the construction of a new international container port in Cebu that aims to free up the existing seaport in the province; and provide a more efficient and reliable transport infrastructure for the unimpeded flow of goods and services in the Visayas. The agreement was signed by Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III on behalf of the Philippine government, and Sung-Soo Eun, chairman and president of the Export Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM).

 A new Cebu International Container Port with a total estimated project cost of PHP 10.1 billion (approximately USD 199.25 million) will be built on a 25-hectare reclaimed land in the town of Consolacion in Cebu.

 

 Aside from the construction of physical structures, the loan also covers the procurement of cargo handling equipment and consulting services.

 

 KEXIM-EDCF will extend USD 172.641 million (approximately PHP8.8 billion or 186.97billion Korean won) for the Port project with a preferential interest rate of 0.15 percent per annim for non-consulting services and zero percent for consulting services.

 

 The loan has a maturity period of 40 years, inclusive of a 10-year grace period.
